THE PAYOFF.

August 26th, 2008

TWO-TIME TUESDAY.

The Animal gives it up for young Dre.  Rest in peace.

Jon catching some of those Fluorescent rays.

It wouldn’t be a MAGIC show without DJ Zo.  We met the Vegas-based DJ at our first show when he tried stealing one of our shirts.  After a slap on the wrist, he’s been hooked ever since.

Hawaii Mike’s (LTD) the keymaster for all the right people.

Brock and Evidence.

Years ago, the first time I put Hue’s feet on the blog, it was the sneak preview shot of a burgeoning brand he was working on called Greedy Genius.  He’s since moved on to found SQR1, and again, here’s your first look at the next generation of upscale footwear.

Mos Def was buggin’ out on SQR1’s debut.  That’s a good sign.

They call him Big Bert for a reason.

Two-timer.

Brad (on the right) brought by Justin (Yo Gabba Gabba!), who turned out to be a fan.  Likewise.

Jenna’s amassing quite the art collection.

I don’t know what half of the TH crew would do without American Apparel girls.

Switch was stuck in “meetings” all day.

His “office” is getting kinda messy.

Mari and Arpa.  Look familiar?

ROCK HARD.

During MAGIC week, it always starts off, and ends up, at the Hard Rock. The Alpha and Omega of Vegas nightlife.

Big Bert drops a few.

I dunno why, but we always grab dinner at Pink Taco in the Hard Rock. Hey, there’s Nash in our RAWHIDE hat. A few moments later..

he took the stage at WASTED SPACE with the rest of the 87 Stick-Up Kids.

There was a swarm of streetwear parties poppin’ off at the PALMS, but we decided to hole up at WASTED SPACE for the remainder of the night in our own corner, to support all our friends onstage, surrounded by TH fam. Including Jackson at the door. Nothing tops that.

Except Big Bert dancing.

After the 87 Stick-Up Kids wrapped, Astrid (talking to Alice [Joe's Jeans]), Amanda Blank, and her backup dancer posted up.

Naeem (Spank Rock) owes his skills to The Hundreds Buffalo socks.

Amanda Blank takes the stage.

Even Astrid aka Baby Ca$htrid got up in the mix! WHaaaaT *EXCLUSIVE footage of Ca$htrid with 87 Stick-Up Kids and then later in the night with Amanda and Spank Rock.

Don’t point, Switch. That’s rude.

That’s 3 fingers right back at you.

JUST ANOTHER MAGIC MONDAY..

..Actually, no, I take that back. It’s not just another Magic Monday.  They actually came correct this year and installed SLATE, street couture’s own distinct sub-show that’s got some added sophistication and gravity, devoid of all the riff-raff, hoopla, and hullabaloo usually associated with MAGIC’s Streetwear department.  Actually, there’s still some hoopla (not as much hullabaloo).

Vic was trying to get us on camera for his online show, Mike & Vic.  Unfortunately, we’re not so videogenic, sorry Vic.

Abby.
Everywhere.
AGAIN.

Estevan Oriol and his new calendar, distributed through Upper Playground.  Yes, the world would be a much better place if everyone had a little bit more Rachel Sterling in their lives.

The Arab Parrot does his thing…

Rick Klotz (Freshjive) pulls off the often-imitated, very-complicated “Donald Duck.”

Mazik.  Grandma approved.

BOMBS OVER AFRICA.

Andrew from Tradition just e-mailed me these photos of his customer, 17-year-old photographer Matt Little, who’s down in Africa sharing some of that TH love with the locals.

Pretty awesome.  Thanks Matt.

DECK THE WALLS.

Last night, we drove down to Long Beach to support our good friend, and even greater artist, Stacey Aoyama, who debuted her artwork for ISM’s Sk8ology show. The gallery was lined with 150 skate decks, which have been personally touched by renowned artists, skateboarders, and other figureheads from the skate community.

Here’s Stacey’s piece, an amalgamation of painted silhouette characters, laser-cut fixtures, and a whimiscal storybook theme.

The decks are being auctioned off to support Now That You Know, a “non-profit organization that helps to provide ambitious girls from developing countries a secure environment for learning and growth.” You can start bidding now!

Jason Lee’s work.

Along with Stacey, it was nice to see some other friends of ours participating in the show, including Steven Daily, Mike Shinoda, and here’s Alyasha Owerka-Moore’s curb-crusher.

Jon Chase.

I see Mark Cruz’s name in there.

and Munk One.

The show continues to run at KOOS Art Center at 540 E. Broadway in Long Beach until it moves to ASR in San Diego from September 4-6, and then Surf Expo in Florida from September 12-14.

This guy was tops.
