The Hundreds by Anwar Carrots Lookbook :: Shot in Lagos, Nigeria

The Hundreds by Anwar Carrots Lookbook :: Shot in Lagos, Nigeria

Back in December, we dropped our The Hundreds by Anwar Carrots collaboration. The colorful, energetic collection was designed by our longtime friend Anwar, a renowned creative, entrepreneur, and tastemaker who truly represents the new wave of West Coast streetwear.

Though we shot a lookbook here in LA, what we really wanted was to shoot a lookbook in Nigeria, to be more representative of Anwar’s roots and the Igbo language words on the back of our collaborative shirt (“ADIEU AKU-UDO OTU” is a farewell dedication to the “#1 Chief,” Anwar’s grandfather). More specifically, we thought it’d be amazing to shoot it and feature some skateboarders from the Motherlan crew as models (you may recognize them also from our WAFFLESNCREAM feature).

It took a long time to finally make it happen, but Anwar pulled through, connecting with photographer Danielle Mbonu to shoot our second collaborative lookbook in Lagos, Nigeria, with WAFFLESNCREAM team riders Olaolu and Onyedi.

Here’s what Danielle had to say about the shoot:

“Lagos is our city—it might not be perfect but honestly we love it. There’s so much energy and the city is buzzing 24/7. Muri Okunola, Victoria Island—the street where the shoot took place—is basically where the boys skate; it’s very busy most times, but we know everyone in the area, it’s like our little community so we felt comfortable shooting there. The tricycles popularly known as “keke Na pep” here in Lagos are basically the most easily accessible and convenient means of transport and you’ll probably see like 10-20 of them driving past every minute; it’s a big business in the city and it’s part of what makes Lagos, you know, Lagos. The essence of the pictures was basically to give a little feel of what its like living in Lagos to anyone looking at them tbh, our streets, our transportation, our little community in Victoria Island!”
